Christina and her husband decided to go through open adoption and they share all their thoughts and emotions from their life on their blog- http://www.fifiandmo.com/.  Little Finley was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 15 months, but that doesn’t stop them from taking on the world together with a smile on their face. Christina (@FifiandMo) Did you know FIFI had Cerebral Palsy when you adopted her?  Not officially. When we were chosen to be her parents, she was a typical, healthy fetus. Because of her prematurity, she suffered Brain-bleeding which caused the Cerebral Palsy. We considered her ours from the moment we were picked, nothing was going to change that. The Adoption was finalized when she was 14 months old, she was formally diagnosed the following month. It was obvious that she had substantial physical delays …

I always knew I would be a dad from as far back as I can remember. Being gay, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Melissa

After going through a smooth pregnancy and birth, Melissas little baby Sonya Rose did not pass the hearing test at the hospital and was declared deaf. Sonya has had cochlear implants since 7 months and is now learning both English and Russian!  MELISSA KVITKO (@mmkvitko) When/How did you discover Sonya Rose had a hearing disability? Like most babies, Sonya was screened for hearing loss a day after her birth. My pregnancy and her birth had gone very smoothly, but I still dreaded the hearing screen as my husband and I are both carriers of Connexin 26 – a non-syndromic hearing loss gene. This meant that there was a 25 percent chance that Sonya would have hearing loss. Still, I figured the odds were in our …

Felicity was born with Down Syndrome and her mom Alyse shares the positive experience of having a child with special needs.  ALYSE SCHOLL (@flicks_on_fleek) Have you experienced any benefits/positive experiences because of Felicity’s diagnosis? Having a child is a complete positive experience and has made me a better person, even more so because of her special needs.  What is your favorite alone time treat, to recharge your batteries? I recharge by reading or just having alone time. Whether it be watching a favorite show by myself or shopping at the store. Mostly though I miss Felicity if I’m gone. What advice would you give to people who have a loved one with a similar diagnosis to Felicity? My advice for anyone who receives a diagnosis …

HOW DO OUR DESIGNERS GET INSPIRATION

0

June 7, 2016 by Polarn O. Pyret

How do our designers get inspiration? Prior to each new season, the design department goes on an inspirational journey, which is generally an excellent way of getting started on a new collection. The journey includes many new impressions that set off the imagination and ideas. We generally all begin to feel how our fingers start to itch, and we cannot wait to get home and start designing the new collection. We look for new trends in terms of colors, function, styles and prints. London, Paris and Antwerp This time we were away for three days and visited London, Paris and Antwerp. We find our inspiration in fashion, interior design, art – really in anything at all. Those of who go on the journey have slightly …

May 24, 2016 by Polarn O. Pyret

Is there anything more wonderful than the first rays of sunlight in the spring? The sun is always a welcome sight after a dark and cold winter. Remember to take care since children’s skin is especially sensitive to the sun, particularly in the beginning of the season when some childnren’s skin is pale. The best way to protect all of our little sunshine’s is to make sure they are not in the sun too long and to try to keep them in the shade as much as possible. There is also clothing available that can help. IDEAS FOR SMART SUN PROTECTION Babies should not be exposed to sunlight or excessively high temperatures. Protect them with a sun hat, parasol and clothing. If you are outdoors in …
